What we did
Galliford Try, in partnership with its housebuilding division Linden Homes, have redeveloped this quarter-hectare brownfield site in Battersea SW11 into a prestigious 5-storey, 100 residential unit and 14,000 sq ft office development.
Our involvement in this project included:
- Collecting and analysing noise and vibration measurements in relation to:
- Conducting an acoustic design review;
- Advising on any modifications required to the building structure;
- Conducting airborne and impact sound insulation tests in accordance with the requirements of Approved Document E of the Building Regulations.
Acoustic features of this project
As a new build development site located adjacent to over-ground railway lines, an extensive programme of acoustic surveys, site inspection visits and sound insulation tests was required.
- The surveys needed to be carried out prior to construction starting so that:
- The impact of noise and vibration from the over-ground freight and consumer trains could be established;
- As a result of the surveys' findings, any required design changes could be identified and made early on, avoiding any unnecessary delays, unbudgeted costs and, ultimately, a development that's not fit for purpose.
- The pre-completion tests had to be conducted and reported on during the construction stage:
- In close co-ordination with the many different construction team members;
- At times that caused minimal disruption but didn't affect the validity of the test results;
- To demonstrate building control compliance.
